How I learnt Dutch in a month

Oct 13, 2023

I learnt Dutch in a month.

It was a 30 day challenge I did a few years ago.

Since then however I have become rusty. Use it or lose it.

I read a lot in Dutch, especially books.

So my vocabulary and grammar are good.

My reading comprehension is C1 level.

But I don't get any listening or speaking practice.

So I can't really have conversations.

I am about to change that.

This is a language activation protocol:

1. Listening to half an hour a day of Dutch radio or podcasts.

2. 200 listening and repeating drills a day.

3. Prepare memorise and practice my Language Islands in Dutch.

If you have already acquired the vocabulary by reading.

You can activate your language skills and speak fluently in a matter of days.

Listening will improve comprehension and speaking in general.

Listening and repeating will improve your pronunciation.

Language Islands will improve your speaking fluency and accuracy.

If you already know enough vocabulary you can become fluent fast.

Wait but how did you learn Dutch ni a month in the first place?

Easy.

  1. I memorised the 1000 most common words with visualisation and associations.

  2. Massive Input: I read lots of online articles and books.
