7 techniques you can use to learn any language on your own fast:

1. Memorisation with Associations

2. Massive Input: Reading & Listening

3. Language Islands

4. Reading Aloud

5. Listen & Repeat

6. Translate into the Language

7. Questions & Answers

Let me explain:

First of all, you need to learn vocabulary.

You can't speak or undersstand a language well if you don't know enough words.

Rote memorisation of lists is what most people try to do.

Most people fail at language learning.

Repeat words over and over again until you memorise them.

Often using flashcards or other SRS systems.

Rote memorisation is extremely ineffective.

You'll forget most of it quickly.

That is why in NLL we use associations.

Memorise words by visualising and associating them.

You can memorise hundreds of words fast using associations.

And actually remember the words days or even weeks later.

Next comes Massive Input.

Massive Input is vital in order to understand and speak a language well.

You learn all the grammar and vocabulary in context this way.

It's quite simple: You simply have to read and listen to the language as much as possible.

You can learn a language just by doing this.

But I recommend boosting your learning with the association technique I mentioned earlier.

Learning with input only is much slower than what you want.

If you want results fast, combine Massive Input with Associations.

Do this and you'll understand the language well in a few weeks.

Now let's talk about speaking.

Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to talk to anyone or move to the country to improve your speaking skills in a foreign language.

You can do it on your own, at home using these techniques.

 First of all Language Islands.

One of the most important parts of the NLL system.

A Language Island is a group of sentences about a specific topic or for a specific situation or conversation.

You write down everything you think you will say.

You translate it into the language that you're learning.

And you memorise the whole list of sentences.

This will allow you to learn hundreds of useful and practical sentences for all common scenarios quickly.

When it comes to practising speaking, there are 4 main exercises you can do:

Reading Aloud is the easiest one so it's perfect to get speaking practice as a beginner, developing muscle memory and getting used to speaking every single day.

No pressure, no one judging you.

It is especially useful if you do it with your language islands.

When it comes to pronunciation Listen & Repeat is the main exercise you should be doing.

Take an audio file with a long list of sentences and repeat after each one over and over again, trying to sound as close as possible.

Imitate not only the accent but also the tone of the native speaker.

This will be especially useful for pronunciation, but will also help you speak more fluently and accurately.

Speaking of accuracy, Translating into the language is the best exercise for that.

Simply take a bilingual text, read the sentences in your language and translate them mentally into the language.

Don't look at the text until you've said it aloud, that'd be cheating.

Look at the translation after you've tried to say it and repeat it aloud if you got it wrong.

Do this regularly and you'll get rid of most of your usual mistakes.

The last one is the Questions & Answers exercise.

Take a list of questions about a specific topic in the language and try to answer them in speaking, with no preparation.

This is the perfect training for real life conversation.

It will improve your ability to think in the language and respond quickly.

And this is it! This is all you need to do to become fluent in any language!
